Platform Details

Supplementary information about the scope, classification approach, and access process of the Roxencombe platform.

Platform Scope

The Roxencombe platform is designed to organise and present structured information within a defined set of categories. The scope of the platform is intentionally specific: it does not attempt to be a general-purpose search tool or a broad open-access database. Instead, it focuses on providing a well-organised view of information that has been classified according to an established scheme.

The platform operates as a closed information environment. Information is added, reviewed, and organised by the team responsible for maintaining the classification system. Users interact with the organised view; they do not directly modify the underlying data or the classification structure itself.

The scope of what is available at any given time reflects decisions made by the platform's operating team about which information categories are ready for access and at what level of detail. This scope may expand or change over time.

Classification Methodology

The classification system is the mechanism by which raw or unstructured information is transformed into the organised view available through the platform. Classification criteria are defined in advance and applied consistently to every item as it is added to the platform.

Category Assignment

Each item is assigned a primary category and, where appropriate, one or more secondary categories. Primary category assignment is mandatory; secondary assignments are applied when a clear relationship exists between the item and more than one category in the hierarchy.

Hierarchy Depth

The classification hierarchy supports up to three levels of nesting: top-level categories, sub-categories, and individual topic entries. Items are placed at the deepest level of the hierarchy that accurately reflects their content. Items that are genuinely cross-cutting may be represented at a higher level rather than assigned arbitrarily to a single sub-category.

Revision of Classifications

Classifications are reviewed periodically. When the criteria are revised, a re-classification review is conducted to ensure that existing items remain accurately placed under the new scheme. This review process means that the category structure should remain coherent as the platform develops.

Information Categories

The specific categories available within the platform depend on the access level associated with an approved request. General categories that may be available include:

  • Overview documentation explaining the platform's organisation and intended use
  • Reference entries for individual topics and concepts within the platform's subject area
  • Structured summaries of related item groups, presented as condensed panels
  • Navigation aids including the cross-reference index and category map

Categories beyond the general set described above are available subject to access approval. The support team can advise on which categories are included at a given access level.

Access Levels Explained

The platform operates with a tiered approach to access. Different levels of access correspond to different portions of the available information. The tiers are defined by the operating team and may change as the platform develops.

General Access

General access provides entry to the overview documentation and the navigation aids. This level is typically granted following a straightforward enquiry that does not require detailed review of the request.

Standard Access

Standard access includes general access categories plus the reference entry library for the platform's primary subject area. Requests for standard access are reviewed individually and may require clarification.

Extended Access

Extended access encompasses the broadest set of available categories, including structured summaries and the full cross-reference index. This level is subject to individual review and is not granted automatically.

The availability of each tier and the criteria applied at each level are at the operating team's discretion. Submitting a request for a particular level does not create an entitlement to that level.

Limitations of the Platform

The following limitations apply to the Roxencombe platform in its current form. These are not presented as deficiencies but as accurate descriptions of the platform's design boundaries.

  • The platform does not provide live or real-time data. Information is updated at intervals, not continuously.
  • The classification system reflects decisions made by a human review team, not an automated process that can be independently audited by users.
  • The accuracy of any individual item within the platform depends on the quality of the source from which it was drawn and on the accuracy of the classification applied to it. Neither is independently verified by the platform.
  • The platform does not provide any advisory, recommendation, or decision-support output. It presents organised information; interpreting that information is the user's responsibility.
  • Access is subject to the operating team's review and is not guaranteed.
